Do I need to register for class in advance?
New to the studio? Please allow 10-15 minutes before your first class to fill out a registration form and get set up. You may also fill out our registration form and register for your first class online as well to save time. Please make sure to sign in at the front desk even if you registered online.
Are beginners welcome? If I am new to yoga, where should I go? Absolutely! The Studio DC is a yoga school dedicated to imparting knowledge and the proper tools to creating a strong foundation to your yoga practice that will serve you hopefully for the rest of your life. Find one of our many vinyasa flow 1 classes, designed as a 4-6 week program that covers different basic techniques in movement and breath. Each week a different fundamental technique is taught and applied in an easy to grasp way, preparing you to advance to intermediate classes with the knowledge to practice with safety and joy.
How challenging will the classes be for me? Your first few classes may be difficult as you begin moving your body in new, healthy ways. You'll sweat, twist, lunge, reach and balance as you build strength and flexibility. But you control the intensity of each pose as you flow through the process. Soon, you'll experience small victories. Over time, your progress will be amazing!
What if I'm not all that flexible? Actually, many people, especially athletes, aren't particularly flexible. Yoga is not about physical flexibility. With time, yoga will contribute a dimension of flexibility to everything you do. Meanwhile, we encourage you to develop a flexible mind. Just let go. Focus on breathing, sweating and moving. Allow each yoga movement to release tension, dissolve brittleness and blockage, and naturally expand your range of motion. Take it slowly at first. Try to complete 3-4 classes during your trial period. You'll build a base of strength and flexibility and will notice immediate changes with your physical body and mental/emotional well being.
What should I wear to class?
Do you offer rental mats, towels, and bottled water? Both studios offer rental yoga mats ($2) and large rental towels ($2) which are available at the front desk. In an effort to reduce the use of plastic, the studios do not sell bottled water, but offer coconut water in biodegradable cartons ($2). We do have filtered water refill stations, so bring your favorite water bottle along.
What should I bring to class?
Do you have a place for students to change clothes before and after class?
Do you have showers available for students to use after class?
How early should I arrive for class?
How late is too late to arrive for my yoga class? We encourage our yogis to arrive 10-15 minutes early to class to settle from their day and prepare for their practice. We also understand that life gets busy and sometimes yogis are delayed. We are unable to allow yogis to enter the studio if this delay exceeds 20 minutes due to our concern for the yogi’s safety and courtesy to others. If you are just a little bit late, you may be asked to wait until the opening meditation has finished, but be patient, we will help you find a spot.
What forms of payment do you accept? We accept cash and credit/debit cards (all forms except Amex) at the studio. Credit cards may be used online to purchase class passes, event and workshop registrations. The passes will be waiting for you at the studio's front desk and will be activated upon their first use.
